On day 5 at the the Paper Mill we learned the stories of the oldest trees, we learned how many varieties of trees there are and how each one differentiates itself, but also how to figure out how old a tree is. Then, from pieces of fir wood, we created our first mini-fountains.
Also today, we entered the painting workshop, where we each chose a word that best describes the experience of the days spent at the Paper Mill. Friendship, kindness, hope, happiness, education, freedom – just a few of of the words chosen by the children. Words that we then wrote, painted and personalized on pieces of wood. Each in his own way and rhythm.
All the days spent in Comana made us get closer to each other, to know and befriend each other, to laugh and eat together, to get closer to the old crafts, but also to know their story (and importance). We did things together that we didn't think we would get close to so quickly: we modeled in clay, we played with wood, we made dolls out of rushes, we sewed bookmarks and created our own notebooks from scratch.
For 11 years the Paper Mill has been helping us not to forget the old crafts and we are convinced that they will do it for many years to come! We, for sure, will tell over the years how in the summer of 2022 we spent a few fairytale days in the Crafts Village.
